Fluidra’s sales increase by 4.2% and its operating income by 37.5%

Fluidra's growth is in line with forecasts, as reflected in the sales figures of 144.4 million euros in the first quarter of 2012.

Operating income reached 5.6 million euros (+37.5%) and net profits increased from 0.9 to 1.3 million euros (+40.0%).

The good results were mainly due to Aqua joining the group and to the positive effects of the implementation of the lean programme.

True to its strategy of internationalisation, so far this year Fluidra has opened branches in Indonesia and Jordan.

Fluidra, the listed Spanish multinational group devoted to developing applications for the sustainable use of water, released its results today for the first quarter of 2012.

Sales of 144.4 million euros were recorded, a growth of 4.2% in comparison with the same period last year, thanks to the good performance of all of its business units, particularly the irrigation business unit whose sales increased by almost 20%.

In terms of the breakdown of sales by geographical area, Spain recorded a drop of 6.6%, whilst the rest of Europe continued to show slightly positive growth thanks to markets such as France. Asia and Australia, as well as the rest of the world, continued to show an upward trend with growth reaching double figures.

The significant increase in operating income (EBIT) from 4.1 to 5.6 million euros (+37.5%) was due to the contributions of all of the divisions, as well as Aquatron/Aquaproducts joining the group and the implementation of the lean management programme.

Boosted by the 40% increase in operating income (EBIT), net profits totalled 1.3 million euros at the end of the first quarter.

In a statement, Eloi Planes, Fluidra's CEO, said that "we have made a good start to the year. We are in line with forecasts and ready for the 2012 season. We will continue with our strategy based on internationalisation, diversification and turnkey projects. Fluidra is a solid group with great future prospects…. So far this year we have opened branches in two new countries – Indonesia and Jordan – and the end of the year is still a long way off."
