Fluidra Foundation

Fundació Fluidra was set up in 2016 as Fluidra felt the need to share the knowledge it had acquired over its 50-year history with society and, in particular, with those people who most needed it. The idea for the foundation was a natural step forward in Fluidra’s commitment to society, so that it could better focus its corporate social responsibility initiatives and have a greater impact.

The activities run by Fundació Fluidra concentrate on two lines of action: water and music. Thus, the actions carried out by the foundation are in line with two basic commitments: social commitment, through projects focused on accessibility, awareness-raising and education about the use of water; and cultural commitment, devoted in particular to spreading music as a way of educating people and giving them dignity.

Activities and partnerships

Fundació Fluidra currently implements the KAG-25 project alongside a farm school managed by Écoles Pies in the Karang region of Senegal. The aim of this initiative is to turn a 25-hectare farm in the south of the country into viable horticultural land, where profits can be invested in the training of its young students. In this farm school children and young people are given vocational training for 4 years. All of this is to enable them to feed themselves, as well as give them greater entrepreneurial and financial skills.

The foundation is also a supporting member of Palau de la Música Catalana and Gran Teatre del Liceu. It also assists Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, Fundació Abadia de Montserrat, GIO Orquestra and Fundació Catalunya Cultura in promoting different cultural initiatives. Furthermore, as Fundació Fluidra takes a concern in the well-being of people and in the endangered species protection, it cooperates with Fundació Sanitària Mollet, Fundació CRAM and Banc d’Acció Social.

Joan Planes, Fundació Fluidra’s president

Following his appointment as Fluidra’s Honorary President in 2015, Joan Planes has led projects in entrepreneurship at Fluidra Accelera and is the chair of Fundació Fluidra.

Joan Planes is a founding partner of Fluidra who started out by setting up Astral Construcciones Metálicas, S.A. together with three other partners in 1969. He ended up by becoming its first executive director. Until the turn of the century, Planes spearheaded Fluidra’s expansion and internationalization process. In 2006, his son Eloi Planes, current Executive President, took over the lead to handle the company’s listing.

Besides the awards given to him over his career, his work on Fluidra's process of internationalization has been widely recognized. It is particularly worth highlighting the special prize given by the Government of Catalonia for the Internationalization of Catalonia's Economy awarded in 1995 to Astral Grup, S.A. and to him personally in 2006. Also worthy of mention is the prize awarded to him by the newspaper El Periódico in 2003 to the Best Business Initiative and the Creu de Sant Jordi (Catalan Government Award), which was awarded to him in 2013.

In addition to his profile as an entrepreneur, Joan Planes has an acute awareness and interest in promoting the sustainable use of water, helping young people, and benefiting through contributions to culture and music.

Other posts held by Joan Planes are: President of the Trustees of Fundació Privada Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, Full Member of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, and Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of Associació Orfeó Català, Creu de Sant Jordi.
