Fluidra equips a seawater desalination plant on a refinery in Iraq
August 19, 2010The multinational has equipped a seawater desalination plant for the
South Refineries Company, located in Basra in southern Iraq, for a total cost of
1.5 million euros.
The desalination plant has two facilities that work in parallel and that turn
out a total volume of 5,000 m 3 /day of water that is used in the refinery's
industrial processes.
Fluidra is broadening the horizons of its business area devoted to the treatment of
industrial water. The new project in Iraq, built at a cost of 1.5 million euros, is managed
through Fluidra Middle East. The refinery in Basra owned by the South Refineries
Company will have a seawater desalination plant fitted out by the Spanish
multinational.
Through its specialised company Astramatic, Fluidra built the desalination plant with
the following equipments: pre-treatment equipment – screen filtration, hypochlorite
dosing, chlorine reducer dosing, sulphuric acid dosing; osmosis equipment – safety
filtration, inverse osmosis equipment, membrane washing and cleaning equipment,
automatic water mixing system; and post-treatment and distribution equipment –
hypochlorite dosing, pH correction, regulator storage tank and a distribution pumping
system.
With its two facilities that that work in parallel to process 2,500 m 3 /day of water, the
desalination plant is able to provide 5,000 m 3 /day of water for the refinery's industrial
processes.
This project once again proves that Fluidra's internationalisation and diversification
strategy places the multinational in a leading position in the water treatment sector.
