Fluidra and European Aquatics join forces to modernize pools and promote universal access to swimming education

Fluidra and European Aquatics join forces to modernize pools and promote universal access to swimming education
May 8, 2026
  • The agreement aims to upgrade Europe’s pool infrastructure, with more than 24,000 facilities currently considered obsolete.
  • The “Learn to Swim” program will enable thousands of people across more than 50 European regions to learn how to swim through the installation of mobile pools in areas lacking aquatic infrastructure.

May 8th, 2026 – Fluidra, a global leader in equipment and connected solutions for the pool and wellness sector, and European Aquatics, the governing body for aquatic sports in Europe, have signed an agreement to launch two programs aimed at modernizing aquatic facilities and expanding access to swimming education.

The initiative addresses two of the sector’s main challenges: the aging stock of public pools and the lack of infrastructure limiting access to swimming in certain regions.

This alliance marks a further step in the relationship between European Aquatics and Fluidra, which has until now focused on the sponsorship of aquatic events and the development of competition pools, and is now expanding into initiatives with greater social impact.

Modernizing Europe’s pool infrastructure

The “Refurbishment Program” aims to upgrade existing aquatic facilities through free technical audits across Europe, with no subsequent obligation.

Based on these assessments, Fluidra develops improvement proposals focused on optimizing operational efficiency, enhancing safety and extending the lifespan of facilities, while also reducing energy consumption. In addition, the solutions incorporate sustainability and digitalization criteria to align facilities with current industry standards.

Currently, more than 24,000 public pools across Europe show signs of obsolescence, representing a challenge in terms of both efficiency and safety.

Mobile solutions to expand access to swimming

The second pillar of the agreement focuses on the deployment of mobile pools designed to deliver the “Learn to Swim” program in areas without access to aquatic facilities. Through this initiative, thousands of people across more than 50 European regions, including areas in Spain, are expected to learn how to swim thanks to mobile pools installed in locations lacking infrastructure.

This model of temporary pools, which are quick to install and equipped with integrated water treatment systems, allows for rotation between different municipalities, enabling a mobile use model and maximizing the impact of the investment. This flexible approach makes it possible to bring swimming education to communities that currently lack adequate infrastructure.

Various European studies highlight significant territorial disparities in access to pools, limiting swimming practice and the development of basic aquatic skills. These initiatives aim not only to address infrastructure gaps, but also to improve water safety, promote healthy habits and reduce regional inequalities in access to sport. They are aligned with Fluidra’s “Positive Pool” concept, which promotes a sustainable pool model that reduces water, energy and chemical consumption while fostering social responsibility, safety and inclusion.

An alliance to transform the future of the aquatic sector

Antonio Silva, President of European Aquatics, stated: “This collaboration reflects our commitment to the sustainable development of the aquatic sector and to improving access to high-quality facilities across Europe. With more than 50 years of experience and a presence in over 47 countries, Fluidra brings its technological capabilities, global network and engineering expertise to scale these initiatives.”

Thorsten Muck, Head of Commercial Pool at Fluidra, added: “Our collaboration with European Aquatics represents a decisive step towards a more sustainable, accessible and innovative aquatic sector in Europe, aligned with our corporate purpose.”
